I am hoping against hope that I will find a hummingbird nest in my yard this year. I know they make their tiny nests with lichen and spiderwebs (how romantic is that?), and those materials are plentiful here. I’ve also got three hummingbird feeders up. I know a female has the feeder in the front yard claimed, and I’ve seen at least three different males dueling for the large feeder in the back yard. There must be hummingbird babies here this year… there must!
Here’s one of the males from the back yard:
I also was able to clean one of the bird houses that previous tenants left on the front porch. It’s handmade, of durable design, and I decided that I wanted to paint it after the style of some of the Shinto temples we visited when we went to Tokyo. How cool would that be?
