Recipe: leaves and curds

Here at the Beemouse Institute, we have ramped up R&D in our Food Research Division (FRD) lately.

FRD came up with a recipe they call “leaves and curds.”

Brew loose-leaf tea
Add cream
Wait for curds to float to top
Decide if you’re going to waste a cup of tea or just drink the damn thing

It is possible for the [...]

Breaking news, a hummingbird photo I’m really proud of

I don’t know if anyone who hasn’t tried to photograph hummingbirds can appreciate how hard it is. If hummingbirds weren’t so cool, I would’ve given up long ago.*
I noticed that some of the hummingbirds are pairing up (meaning, when they fly around at Mach 3 they’re flying together in playful loops, instead of territorial [...]

Black and white, vertically oriented fun

I’m in a good mood today, so I’d like to share some funny things.

Garden and Cosmos

Hey!
Hey!!!
I just went to the “Garden and Cosmos: The Royal Paintings of Jodhpur” exhibit at the Seattle Asian Art Museum tonight and it blew my mind. I’ve always loved traditional Indian painting, but I’ve never seen any in person, and I just don’t understand how these were painted.
SAAM provides magnifying glasses because all of [...]

Hummingbird and beer

For some reason I’m in love with this photo I took this morning. Maybe because the graininess gives it a painterly look… maybe because it includes hummingbirds and beer, both of which I like…
The structure in the background is our detached garage, where Richard keeps the bikes and works on projects. He [...]

Hanna

I hung out with my friend Hanna the other day, and as I was perusing my photos today (”study break”), I found some of her that really made me smile.
This is Hanna and Lindsey Anne. I just love this photo. Lindsey Anne looks so severe.

Humans as cancer

I’ll preface this by saying that I’m now in school full time studying to become a Medical Assistant (more about that later, but basically this means that in my first quarter I am studying all anatomy/physiology/pathology).
So I was reading the oncology chapter last night, and while I was reading and sort of having a panic [...]

Control

Last night Richard and I watched the movie “Control”, about Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Division. Sam Riley, who I’d never heard of, plays Ian Curtis, and is completely convincing and awesome. I say that as someone who has suffered from clinical depression and neurological conditions (Curtis was epileptic)… he sure convinced [...]

Dreaming of baby birds

I am hoping against hope that I will find a hummingbird nest in my yard this year. I know they make their tiny nests with lichen and spiderwebs (how romantic is that?), and those materials are plentiful here. I’ve also got three hummingbird feeders up. I know a female has the feeder [...]

It’s alive!

Hi everyone!
My blog was down due to host craziness for a while, but now it’s back, and I don’t forsee any blag problems arising in the near future. Many thanks to my husband Richard and the admins of the host for figuring this stuff out.
Anyway, this is just a simple announcement that my blog [...]
