In December 2007, Graykit, Jen’s kitty and Gus’ sister, disappeared. We panicked. We posted signs, searched shelters, posted ads on Craigslist, called veterinarians. We tried to divine from Gus’ behavior if he knew anything about her disappearance. We never found her. No body by the roadside. No tales from neighbors. No clues in the woods. We decided someone must’ve stolen her.
Richard and I often call Newps and Nips brother and sister, but they aren’t in the biological sense. Gus and Graykit were. Jen didn’t originally want two cats, but they were the last two available cats from the same litter, and she wanted them to be together. She raised two of the sweetest, most amazing cats I have ever had the privilege of knowing. It’s hard to understand the pure cat goodness that radiates from them unless you’ve met them in person.
I still miss Graykit and she wasn’t even my cat. Now, mid-December, a year after her disappearance, I am posting a tiny photographic retrospective in her honor. O Graykit, you beautiful kit, we miss you.

Awsh Sweetie. *sniff* Such an awesome retrospect – thank you. While reading this just now – I was reminded that I had a dream about Graykit either last night or the night before. I remember the sweetest thing was that I recognized her scent.. I knew it was her even thought I didn’t recognize her at first. I still miss her a lot too. Such a sad loss – she really was so sweet and beautiful and soft and smart and brave.
Thanks for remembering her so fondly – and accurately!
You are the best kitty mom, and I’m so proud of your kitty babies. Waaahhh. I am glad Graykit visits you in your dreams.
:’-)
