Yeah, I think the latter frames aren't that bad either.

I watched Ghost in a Shell, and one of the series that came out of it ("Stand Alone Complex") -- which was pretty good. I dig all that anime stuff, and Lain was actually in my Netflix queue, but I've bumped it up to the front on the basis of Bryan's ringing endorsement :-)

Speaking of power lines and anime, you really should check out Lain. It's about four dvd's. I have it and could find a way to loan it to you, but I'm sure the tubes have it too.

Oooh ooh!

You know, what's weird is that I just don't feel anything aesthetically wrong with the latter frames in that clip. It makes me think about lots and lots of humans lives, all in one place, and that's exciting to me.

Maybe that's a case of "humans can get used to anything", or... I mean... Have you ever watched the anime Ghost in the Shell? Just wait until we've all been absorbed into the internet. I bet that will be beautiful too ;)

As a fellow telephone-line affectionado, I thought I'd pass along that I had this as my google theme for awhile, where you get pretty power lines two-thirds of the day:

This is also a fine work (the clip is from the movie Crumb) that prominently features some telephone lines. I think the lines are supposed to be more distopian here though:
