Plant families

I have this compulsive need to organize all my plant photos into sets based on which botanical family they belong to. My list of plant families keeps growing and growing and is turning entirely unmanageable on flickr. (You can see the group of plant family sets here.)

I’ve never formally studied taxonomy, and I think it’s funny that I have to rearrange some of my plants sometimes because those wacky taxonomists keep coming up with new ways to categories plants. For example, now I need to move my elderberry photographs from the Caprifoliaceae set to the Adoxaceae set, because of something having to do with DNA analysis and molecular systematics and other things I can’t begin to understand.

Let’s celebrate that Adoxaceae family.

Sambucus nigra 'marginata'

Sambucus nigra cv. marginata– a beautiful variegated black elderberry.
