summer one day

Saturday was amazing. It was 70 degrees in Seattle. A couple friends came over, we washed off the plastic patio furniture, and ate picnic food in the sun. I wore a tank top and sandals.

I don’t think there’s any way to fully communicate how wonderful it feels to have a day like that after enduring another Seattle winter.

I took this photo of a magnolia tree planted between our house and the neighboring one. The magnolia was in full bloom, and the petals were lifting in the breezes, sometimes cascading down into our laps and onto our food.

One of the dry, velvety sepals of a magnolia blossom fell into Jen’s lap, and she declared it the softest thing ever, after rubbing it lightly on her upper lip. (This is how she evaluates soft textures.)
