Ballookey, creator of the above image, writes, “Why share it if you have to go to those lengths? Just keep your photos locked up in your house forever and ever amen. Generations of cats will love and admire you, but truthfully, that’s because you feed them, not because of your artwork.”

A resounding LOL!

This prompts me to confess that I have totally tried to show my photographs to my cats. Surprisingly enough, they don’t care. Even when they are the subjects of the photographs. I’m not sure if this is because cats don’t understand 2-D images, or because my photography really sucks.

There might be an empirical way to test this. I need to think about it… How would I go about finding out if my cats are indifferent to my photography because they can’t visually process it, because they are indifferent to art, because my photography sucks, (because my photography is good? What if they are snobby critics?–) or a combination of two or three of these? Should I photojournalistically document the experimental process? Which institution is most likely to fund this investigation if I apply for a grant? Who will I submit my paper to for peer review?

Another sleepless night in the service of art and science…
